I've lived in Sacramento for a year and have walked by Tony's many times but today I finally went in, and YUM!

I grew up with Italian delis and this felt like home. The people were all friends and the sandwich was amazing! This is going to become a regular lunch stop for me."

I've been coming here A LOT for lunch lately.  Why?  A wide variety of good quality food, for a good price.  I haven't found a better lunch place in downtown that offers convenience and good food.  I especially like the option to have a healthy lunch.

For example, I've been going with a small spinach salad with a double order of chicken breast + a drink.  All of that for under $10.

If you go at around 11:30, it's not too busy.  Even afterwards, you're only going to wait 5 minutes.  The folks behind the counter are super friendly and polite and do their best to get your food to you quickly without sacraficing portion size or quality.

Lots of green grass around Capitol Park just a block away to take your Tony's Deli lunch to enjoy the beautiful Sacramento weather (and sit in the shade in the summer months)."

The best sandwiches in downtown Sacramento hands down. A lot of love goes into making them (which takes time of course). You cannot rush the artistry of a great sandwich. It is worth the wait even if the line is out the door.

I recommend the California club with brown mustard and pepperjack."

Tony's has the best chicken salad I've ever ingested.  Not too much mayo, and a mingling of middle eastern spices I simply can't identify.  It's not an every-dayer, but when I crave it it must be had immediately.  The egg salad and tuna are foamworthy as well.

One of the best delis in the area, in my opinion. It's got a great, no-frills, East-Coast style (really I think what I mean is it's pretty old-school). They're not trying to be anything other than a great deli. I often get their Ruben and they just do such a great job. I love a place with more than one type of rye bread, thank you! I was just so MAD when I read the other reviewers here and found out the Tony's guys call other gals "sweetheart" and "beautiful" and not just me!! (oh, just kidding, I know it's their schick, but it totally WORKS!). The other thing that's old-school here are the way these guys act like real gentlemen. If you buy a pack of cigs, they'll pack them and open them for you. Who doesn't love that?"

I ate at Tony's Delicatessen for the first time this week and all I can say is - WOW!I have had chicken salad in just about every state in the U.S. and 10 other countries and Tony's is, by far, the best. The tomato basil soup was amazing. Everything was so fresh and the flavors tremendous! I don't know how any other Deli stays in business with Tony's around. Thank you for a wonderful lunch and the next time I am in Sacramento I will go back to Tony's."

I stayed at the Hyatt right down the street on business, and I wasn't about to
give them any more of my money for a mediocre overpriced lunch, so I stopped in here for a sandwich.  Got an Italian Sub, which is hard to screw up really.  What made this a 4-star place is how gigantic it is!  Coming from the northeast, these things are usually just wide enough to fit the counter and a line of people.  This place had everything you could ever need from a deli - food, beverage, tobacco, or otherwise - with plenty of room to spare.  Clean, well maintained, and with friendly service.  Well done."

The most excellent food and service of any deli in downtown Sacramento. I worked accross from the Capitol for 4 years and literally ate here every day. There are so many options downtown, but I just couldn't stay away. Tony's has friendly, homey staff and fresh food. No matter what I was craving, Tony's always had it or was willing to make it for me for a very reasonable price. I can not recommend this place high enough! Go before 11:30 or after 1pm if you want to miss the line. My personal favorites are: the nachos (specials), clam chowder on Fridays (in the cold months), the gyros (sooo yummy, they make the yogurt sauce themselves), the hummus, their breakfast bagels, the Reuban sandwich, and the pomegranite Italian soda. Also, Starbucks has nothing on their hot chocolate (and theirs is half the price!)."

Elias and Jacob are quite a duo. The food is excellent and the customer service is unmatched by any other local deli on J street. Try the gyros or the tuna....mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm mmmmmmmmmmmmmm!!! Pros: Elias; Cons: none."

If you've got the itch for a great deli sandwich, this is the place for you.  I often go here for lunch during the work week, and the sandwiches are made fresh for you as you order it (similar style to Togo's and Subway, except at Tony's, you get a great sandwich every time).  My favorite is either turkey and pepper jack or ham and swiss on a sourdough roll.  The guys making the sandwiches are great - very friendly, always fast, and never get the order wrong."
